Park and Sport Field Carrying Capacity

Dr Mick Battam developed a foot traffic calculator that allows direct comparisons to be made between the carrying capacity of sporting fields and their current sport usage. The model has been reliably used to forecast the condition of more than 200 playing fields, with the NSW EPA sponsoring the conversion of the tool into a website program for use by Council sports field managers.
AgEnviro Solutions has developed new techniques for increasing sports field carrying capacity. The results have been impressive.

The most highly used field in Sydney shown at right, now requires only minimal turf patching each spring. There are two fields on this site, both of which receive:

• 30 hours of soccer training per week with 2 teams training per field
• 16 hours of soccer gameplay on the weekend
• 15 hours of school kids playing on the field each week
• and a 3-day soccer carnival in June
